Kamakura is a quiet little town located about an hour from Tokyo by metro/train.
Just take a day to cycle around the city and discover the Giant Buddha, some very beautiful temples, a small town center (with a Ghibli shop !!) and a very nice beach !
A real "coup de coeur", this is a place not to be missed during your trip to Japan! A word of warning: you must chill and not hurry! Something you don't necessarily take the time to do when you visit Tokyo ;).

Hase Dera is a very nice Buddhist temple and it is very representative of the idea we have of traditional temples. Lots of small and very nice statuettes, a superb view from the top.
The giant Buddha of Kamakura is probably the most visited monument in town, it is worth seeing visitors praying in front of the Buddha. Very deep and spiritual moments!
A very important Shinto shrine built in 1063.
A temple present in a bamboo forest, a calm and restful place.
Fan of the Ghibli studio and famous Miyazaki's animes? There is a small shop in Kamakura selling your Totoro and Co. goodies.
Kamakura is a seaside town, so it's also a very nice beach at one hour from Tokyo!
The whale shark is the largest fish in the world!
Some whales are larger, but they are mammals, not fish!
Mammals have a horizontal tail.
Fishes have a vertical fin.
Parrotfish create a protective envelope around them when they are sleeping.
So, don't put the light on them during night dive to don't to wake them up and break this envelope.
